Is raw really always better???
I love searching and learning more about healthy eating/cooking tips.
We know that a fruit and vegetables diet is a key to good health but depending how you're preparing them. You may not be getting the most out of them.
Take tomatoes for example;
I can eat them raw or cooked. But I didn't know that cooking tomatoes in fats, makes them more effective.
They can dissolve in fats like olive oil that body absorbs more antioxidants. Slightly cooking veggies is not destroying vitamins and minerals. Actually making them more available and making nutrition easier for body to take in.
Another example; Garlic!
I use it for every dinner. Helps lower blood pressure and full of antioxidants. But also slicing/mincing it actually maximizes the effect.
Keys to healthy leaving are in our hands. Why shouldn't we use them to open a door to healthier life?
Remember my Roasted Tomatoes Recipe? If you missed it or just started to read my site you can read it here.

I wish I could eat more raw fruits and vegetables but my stomach can't handle them. I love to cook with onions, garlic, bell peppers and celery though--I use them just about every day. I do use cooked tomatoes too though not as often as I should. I love to use fresh ginger too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your informative post, Yonca!
ReplyDeletegreat post!
ReplyDeletewanna hear something weird? When I feel like I'm getting a cold, I cut a clove of garlic into quarters then swollow them with water like pills. My breath stinks but I think it helps fight the cold!!
nasilsin canim, evet bir suredir ugrayamadim. harika bir post olmus, sevgiler :)
ReplyDeleteyes, I agree with you. It's always such a battle to eat healtily though isn't it ? The healthy things never seem to be the ones that are quick and easy....
ReplyDeleteI try to eat healthy, but sometimes it is hard not eat the things that are not good for you. Everyonce in while, I do give in to those temptations. I try to cook healthy by using as many fresh vegetables as I can and always looking for healthy recipes.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that about tomatoes before, and have also heard that making a sauce from tomato "paste" is even better because of the high concentration of tomatoes in the paste, making for a greater amount of antioxidants.
ReplyDeleteI love tomatoes and garlic so using these in my cooking is always easy.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know this about tomatoes, but I knew about garlic. I use it in many of my dishes too, and my oil of choice (good for cholesterol)is virgin olive oil. (I also switched to canola oil with omega 3's for other oil needs...)
ReplyDeleteGreat info, Yonca! Thanks for sharing and have a very nice day!
ReplyDelete((hugs))
I didn't know that about tomatoes. I don't like them raw anyhow, so this is good news. I've really come to enjoy garlic as well!

ReplyDeleteGreat tips!! I LOVE garlic. I use it whenever I can!
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Garlic is one of my main ingredients. I just love it. Raw or cooked.
ReplyDeleteI so love to have fresh vegetables and fruit whenever I can, but its hard to find them during some seasons. I do love a fresh, raw tomato!
ReplyDeleteToday must be my lucky day because I made pizza which has cooked tomatoes and minced garlic! Delicious and healthy.
ReplyDeleteI would have never guessed that, but it makes me very happy because I don't like raw tomatoes. Thanks for enlightening me on that. See that's why I love your blog, you are so smart:)
ReplyDeleteI want to eat healthy as much as possible but it's really hard to resist unhealthy ones especially the crispy chicken skin. I'm sure it's yucky to some but that's my weakness you know! Perhaps I'll just eat more veggies like what you've mentioned here. Thanks for the info Yonca!
ReplyDeleteThat it is interesting. I didn't know that about cooking the tomatoes in olive oil is better for you. Your recipe looks good. I may try it if I grow some tomatoes this summer.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great day♥
