Summer Camp

Contribution by Kennith Griffin

Who in their right mind would want to run a summer camp? That’s what I should have been asking myself about 5 years ago when I bought this place but I didn’t and here I am, the owner of a fully functioning summer camp out in the Adirondacks. Don’t get me wrong, I love kids and being outdoors all the time but it’s been a big hassle getting through all the red tape and the parents are the worst. They’re always in my grill about something! I’ve slowly been upgrading this camp to be more a reflection of what I wanted it to be by adding stuff like pillowtop mattresses for all the beds and a rope swing out onto the river. I even got satellite for the counselors’ cabins so when they’ve got a day off they really feel like they can take some time and chill! I think the place is great but it’s a lot more work than I ever imagined it would be. Isn’t everything worthwhile, though?
